We are excited to announce our 2024 Secular Student Scholarship campaign!

For our second year in cooperation with the Secular Student Alliance (SSA), NJHN will sponsor a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a student who is enrolled or enrolling in an accredited four-year college or university, community college, or trade school in New Jersey in the fall of 2024.

Every year, the SSA offers scholarship opportunities to students who will exemplify the SSA mission by proudly expressing their secular identities, building welcoming and inclusive communities, and promoting strong secular values.

The SSA will handle the application process, set deadlines, confirm students’ school status, and perform reference checks. Once the application process closes, SSA will forward qualifying applications to the NJHN Scholarship Committee–without self-identifiers–and we will choose the scholarship recipient. The scholarship funds will be distributed in the fall and, with the student’s permission, we hope to acknowledge our recipient at that time.

Please visit the SSA Scholarship page to submit an application. The submission deadline is July 31, 2024.

Our goal is to raise $1,000 from our members, donors, and supporters to fund our 2024 scholarship. If we are fortunate enough to raise more than our $1,000 goal—the SSA’s minimum requirement—we will either award an additional scholarship or reserve the additional funds for the next year’s scholarship. With established funding, we will make this an annual offering.
