Mission Statement
New Jersey Humanist Network (NJHN) is an educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, that provides, supports, and promotes Humanist community in New Jersey. The nontheistic philosophy or lifestance of secular humanism embraces human reason, ethics, social justice, and philosophical naturalism, affirming that humans have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to our own lives.
We are committed to the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and to the solving of problems through compassion, common experience, and civic engagement. We support progressive ideals and encourage lifelong learning and respect for the natural world and our human diversity.
Based in Somerset County, NJHN has members and supporters all around the state and the region. We host programs and events that support our educational, political and social goals. We are a Chapter of the American Humanist Association and an affiliate group of American Atheists and the Center for Inquiry, and we also share information about other Humanist groups in New Jersey and the region.
Our programs include monthly meetings at the Franklin Township Public Library in Somerset, a Book Club, an Exploring Humanism course, dinners, community fundraisers and projects, secular activism, and seasonal gatherings and parties. In 2023 we resumed in-person events and also maintain some online events via Zoom (visit our events calendar). Our goal is to connect nonreligious New Jerseyans with a Humanist group in their area, or help build one.
We welcome you to join us.
