This month we’ll welcome Laverne Williams, CSW, from the Mental Health Association in New Jersey (MHANJ) to talk to us about doing “A Check-Up from the Neck-Up” as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. She’ll discuss how to:

* Recognize the warning signs that are indicators you are becoming stressed and identify strategies that:
~ you can use to help yourself when you are becoming stressed
~ others can implement to help you when you are becoming stressed
~ you can use to help others when they are becoming stressed
* Recognize what resiliency is and factors that promote emotional wellness
* Identify available resources

MHANJ also understands that racism undermines mental health and is committed to anti-racism in all that they do. That means that they pledge to work against individual racism, interpersonal racism, and institutional racism in all forms. We’ve asked Laverne to also address the issues of the mental and emotional trauma that continue to challenge minority communities because of lack of access to healthcare and behavioral healthcare, and the effects of increased awareness of racial inequities.

As a Humanist community, we need to work together to do all that we can in support of reforms addressing racial injustice and inequity.

This event requires advance registration. After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the link to join the meeting.
