This month we’ll watch Alive Inside (trailer), a stirring documentary that follows social worker Dan Cohen, founder of Music & Memory, as he fights against a broken healthcare system to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those suffering from it. It won the Audience Award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

If you know someone in the depths of Alzheimer’s or dementia, this film might offer a final opportunity to return humanity to a loved one.

“Music has more ability to activate more parts of the brain than any other stimulus.” ~Oliver Sacks

The Alive Inside Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to healing loneliness and disconnection, especially for the young and elders living with dementia. It partners with communities, connects the generations and awakens life using music, empathy education, life story work, and film.

The program will start at 1:30 pm in the Community Room. Free and open to the public. Refreshments provided.

After the meeting, everyone is welcome to join us for an early dinner at 4 pm at Ruby Tuesday, 250 Davidson Ave, Somerset.
