HumanLight was created in the late 1990s by members of our very own New Jersey Humanist Network and was first celebrated in December 2001. It was envisioned as a secular holiday for individuals and families during the time that many religions’ festivals dominate the public sphere. HumanLight provides Humanists, atheists, non-believers, freethinkers, and other members of the secular community an opportunity to gather and celebrate our shared values of reason, compassion, and hope.
As we observe this home-grown humanist holiday, we hope for better days ahead for all of humanity, for peace, and for recognition of each person’s worth and dignity. For ourselves, our wishes are for good health, fulfillment in our work, and happiness with our families and friends. We also wish you a wonderful remainder of December, with time to relax, recharge, and enjoy each other’s company.
Here’s to a Healthy and Happy New Year!
