Join us for our August program: a trip to the New Jersey Astronomical Association (NJAA) Observatory in Voorhees State Park, 1 Observatory Road (directions), Glen Gardner.
We’ll watch a screening of the 30-minute documentary Defending the Dark with the filmmaker, Tara Zabriskie. The film takes place in northern Maine’s dark sky areas and focuses on the negative impact light pollution has on humans and the Earth.
Afterward we’ll tour the observatory and, weather permitting (clear skies), we’ll observe the wonders of the night sky through NJAA’s powerful telescopes, including New Jersey’s largest public telescope. You can also bring your own telescope.
Admission and parking is free, donations welcome and appreciated to support NJAA’s mission: “Educating Everyone About the Science of Astronomy.” Learn more about NJAA here.
The program starts at 8:30 PM, arrive at 8:00 to be sure of a good parking space and a seat, which can fill up fast during the summer camping season at the park. Some refreshments available or bring your own.
All ages welcome, children are encouraged to visit. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
